The gear, weapons, and attack animations are a big part of the fun, and several other games are similar to Diablo 4 in this regard.

Hades is the rogue-like dungeon crawler that brought the genre to the center of the gaming world and put indy developer Supergiant Games on the map. It's not an RPG, but it has some RPG elements, like using the Mirror of Night to customize the main character's powers or a choice of weapons and trinkets that can unlock more powerful and impressive abilities. A slight twist on the horror genre, Grim Dawn uses a sci-fi setting in the grip of a brutal trans-dimensional war that threatens to destroy all of humanity. The plot includes contacting non-corporeal beings called Aetherials, who can give humans special powers after possessing their bodies for a short time. You choose a class in the game to level and customize, and because of the futuristic setting, they include options like Demolitionist and Occultist.

Another expansive series with a lot of Diablo-like isometric combat action from which to choose, Baldur's Gate 2: Throne Of Bhaal is one of the darker chapters in this story and keeps with the intense horror aesthetic. This is an expansion pack for Shadows of Amn, the sequel to the first game in the series, and you learn that you can replace the Lord of Murder if you succeed in destroying him.

It's grim, dark, and creepy, with the whole story starting with the main character's death and revival in an eerie dungeon. His memory is gone, except for a few haunting remains of a woman he loved, but nothing else about how he ended up dead.

It's not as cutesy as it looks, with the opening scene featuring a sacrifice, a pledge to a dark god, and a resurrection. The dark forest and murky waters hold all kinds of evil and dangerous secrets, provided the main character survives them.

A mix of rogue-like dungeons, RPG, and a dark fantasy setting, players start Torchlight 2 by witnessing the destruction of a city, continuing a tradition that started with the first game. There's a main storyline that explains why Torchlight was destroyed, along with side-quests that might be connected to the campaign but can also stand alone.

You choose between classes that have a fantasy-steampunk motif, like Engineer and Embermage, and each has three skill trees for further customization. There isn't much crafting to be done, but you can build your cities, which more than fills the gap.
