Do you find manscaping attractive? Vote in our poll (2024)

For decades women have been jealous of men who don't need to endure the pain of waxing, shaving and plucking to maintain a smooth appearance - apart from dealing with facial stubble.

But now men are increasingly opting for a more groomed appearance - and it goes beyond trimming back unruly chest hair.

England football star Jude Bellingham showcased his extremely smooth body this month in his campaign with Kim Kardashian's underwear brand SKIMS, with not a hair in sight all the way down to the waistband of his boxers.

Meanwhile, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldoand Chris Hemsworth have long been parading a fuzz-free look on their back, legs, and chest.

As a result, men are paying more attention to hair removal across all body areas, including the nether regions - all the better for gym fanatics to show off their rippling muscles.

But the question of whether women find manscaping appealing remains. To have your say on whether the trend is attractive, take part in the poll below.

Jude Bellingham showcased his hairless torso in his latest Skims campaign.. but do YOU find manscaping attractive?

All it takes is a quick glance at ITV1's Love Island to see the booming popularity of male hair removal in the UK.

Contestants Will Anderson and Omar Nyame have paraded their hairless chests around the Spanish villa as they attempt to woo their female counterparts.

Joey Essex joins them, although the reality TV star revealed his manicured chest to the public a long while ago, back when he coined 'reem' on The Only Way Is Essex.

TOWIE was renowned for men who pick up a razor, and the likes of Mark Wright has also rocked the hairless look.

Across the pond, Hollywood hotshots Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey paved the way for the Brentwood bunch, with the actors showcasing a hairless look in multiple top-ranking films.

More recently, in March last year, Gyllenhaal, 43, turned heads after he flaunted his ripped physique when he filmed a shirtless scene for the Road House remake.

But it wasn't just his washboard abs and bulging muscles that stole the show, it was also the fact that they were without hair.

Meanwhile, sports stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo, 39, and Australian cricketer Michael Clarke, 43, have revealed their love of a smooth, shaven legs.

The sports stars might opt for the look to enhance the performance when competing.

Shaving off one's hair can improve the aerodynamics of an athlete's body, thereby helping the body to move faster.

While some men choose to remove their leg hair simply for aesthetic reasons, many athletes also shave their legs to avoid hair root infections and improve their skin's healing process.

But one can't help but think that Ronaldo would choose the hairless look athlete or not, thanks to his love of looking manicured and photoshoot ready at all times.

It comes after Dr Matthew Hall, research associate in social psychology at Lancaster University, who has carried out various studies on metro-sexuality, believes there is more pressure than ever on male appearance.

He previously told MailOnline the trend of male grooming has evolved since the 1980's with factors like the rise of men's magazines, equality and feminism and pressure from the gay movement, all playing a part.

The shift has made it more acceptable for men to take an interest in their own personal appearance, although, he added, it is often given a 'masculine' twist to make it more acceptable.

'Men are now under a lot of pressure to look after themselves and to present themselves better,' he told MailOnline.

'You only have to look at the supermarket aisles to see the amount of products for me. Men much prefer going shopping now then they ever have done.

'It's not that men haven't been doing things with themselves in the past, as they have.

'I think what is different about the current climate is very consumerist and capitalist which puts more pressure on men to do something.'

Dr Hall researched into why more men than ever are paying close attention to their pubic hair to enhance their self image - and his research is published in the journal Sexualities.

He studied responses to an advert by Gillette which carried the catchy slogan 'when there's no underbush the tree looks taller'.

The YouTube video has been viewed more than 6.5 million times and evoked hundreds of comments on the subject.

But interestingly, no men admitted to doing it to enhance the size of their penis - despite a previous study finding almost two-thirds of men were unhappy about their genitals.

Instead, reasons including for 'better sex' and 'good hygiene,' were the most popular, the study found.

Dr Hall said it suggested men were giving deliberately 'masculine' responses to avoid being associated with a traditionally feminine pastime.

The doctor said that there was no doubt that the number of men taking part in groin grooming was on the rise, adding it was likely to continue.

'I think the trend is set to continue. The trend has been growing, even in more extreme forms like appearance-related cosmetics,' he said.

'I think it is much more popular and also much more widespread. It cuts across socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities and age groups.'
