Wyll Origin Character Details

Wyll is an Origin character in Baldur’s Gate 3. Origin characters are playable heroes who have their own stories, desires, and attitudes toward the world in BG3. You can play as Wyll to live out his story, or you can choose to create a custom character and recruit his as a companion instead.

"Known as 'The Blade of Frontiers', Wyll uses his magic to fell the monster and devils menacing the Sword Coast. In a moment of desperation, he accepted an offer of greater power, forcing him into an infernal game he is struggling to play."

Where to Find Wyll

Wyll can be recruited as a companion early on in Baldur's Gate 3. After completing the prologue, head to the Druid Grove where you'll encounter a battle with goblins. Speak with Wyll after the battle to team up and take on the Rescuing the Druid Halsin quest.

Wyll Companion Quest

Every companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 seems to have a personal quest that develops their character along a unique storyline. These quests are often an opportunity for custom characters to build a relationship with the companion depending on their choices and reactions. Progression often occurs at the campsite, but can still take place in the outside world too. Wyll's companion quest is called 'The Blade of Frontiers'.

"We met Wyll, a renowned monster hunter from Baldur's Gate. He wants to help the tieflings by taking out the goblin leaders."

Wyll Character Sheet

At character creation, Wyll has the following starting Ability Points (stats):

These ability points are set by default when you select Wyll. You may choose to instead customize the distribution of 27 ability points to adjust his stats. If you change your mind, you can always select ‘Use Recommended’ to revert back to the recommended values for his class.

Wyll’s Proficiencies

If you are Proficient in a Skill, you add a bonus to those skill checks, making you more likely to succeed.

Wyll has the following skill proficiencies:

At character creation, you have the option to edit your two skill proficiencies from the list below. You cannot choose a skill that already has proficiency from your Background or Race.

Additionally, Wyll has the following Weapon and Armour Proficiencies:

  • Simple Weapons
  • Spears
  • Pikes
  • Halberds
  • Glaives
  • Light Armour
  • Shields

Wyll’s Race Features

“The most common face in Faerûn, humans are known for their tenacity, creativity, and endless capacity for growth.”

Wyll is a Human. You cannot change Wyll’s race at character creation.

This race has specific features, including:

  • Base Racial Speed: You can move 9m per turn.
  • Civil Militia: You have Weapon Proficiency with spears, pikes, halberds, and glaives, and Armour Proficiency with Light Armour and Shields.
  • Human Versatility: Select an additional Skill to be Proficient in. Your carrying capacity is increased by a quarter.

Wyll’s Class Features

“Bound by a pact to an all-powerful patron, warlocks trade their loyalty for supernatural abilities and unique magic.”

Wyll is a Warlock. You cannot change Wyll’s class or subclass at character creation.

As a Warlock, you gain the following class features:

  • Warlock Spell Slots: Your warlock spell slots are always at the highest available level and recharge on a short rest.

In addition to Warlock class features, The Fiend has the following subclass features:

  • Dark One’s Blessing: When you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points, this gift from your patron grants you 4 temporary hit points.

Choose two of the following Spells:

Armour of AgathysGain 5 temporary hit ponts and deal 5 Cold Damage to any creature that hits you with a melee attack.
Arms of HadarPrevent targets from using reactions.
Burning HandsEach flammable target is hit with 3-18 Fire damage.
Charm PersonCharm a humanoid to prevent it from attacking you. You gain Advantage on Charisma Checks in dialogue.
  • Enemies have Advantage on Saving Throws against being Charmed.
CommandCommand a creature to flee, move closer, freeze, drop to the ground or drop its weapon.
Expeditious RetreatGain Dash immediately and as a bonus action on each of your turns until this spell ends.
Hellish RebukeReact to your next attacker with flames that deal 2-20 Fire damage.
  • On Save: Target still takes half damage.
HexMake your attacks deal an additional 1-6 Necrotic damage to the target and give it Disadvantage on an Ability of your choosing.
  • If the target dies before the spell ends, you can Hex a new creature without expending a spell slot.
Protection from Evil and GoodProtect an ally against the attacks and powers of aberrations, celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead.
  • The target can't be Charmed, Frightened, or possessed by them, and when these creatures attack it, they have Disadvantage.
Witch BoltLink yourself to a target with a bolt of lightning. Deal an additional 1-12 Lightning damage each turn by activating it.

Wyll’s Background

  • Folk Hero: You’re a champion of the common people, challenging tyrants and monster to protect the helpless. Saving innocents in imminent danger will make your legend grow.

You cannot change Wyll’s background at character creation.
